The Reality Check Every Equestrian Needs to Hear

As riders, we operate on a schedule of minutes and hours. If a horse colics, you have minutes to call the vet. If a storm rolls in, you have hours to switch blanket weights.

Unfortunately, the traditional legal system operates on a schedule of months and years.

Many riders mistakenly believe that a standard Last Will and Testament or a casual verbal agreement at the barn gate will protect their horses. But the hard truth is that a standard Will can leave your horse in financial limbo for months while your assets are frozen in probate court.

Your barn manager cannot wait sixteen weeks for a judge to approve an executor just to buy the next load of hay.

I built this guide because I saw too many dedicated equestrians relying on dangerous legal myths. You deserve the peace of mind that comes with knowing your barn crew has the legal and financial authority to do right by your horse on Day One.” — Morgen M. Bowers, Esq.

Meet “Molly”

Joya de Esmeralda, “Molly”, is a 2006 registered Morgan horse with a BIG personality and a lot of opinions. Morgen and Molly have been together since 2014 when Morgen though it would be a good idea to have a super-smart green horse as her first ever horse. Molly and Morgen trained to be eventers for 12 years, and after (too) many unsuccessful attempts, Molly finally convinced Morgen that the company of other horses, while following hounds through the beautiful Old Chatham countryside, was more her style. They are now happily in their second season with the Old Chatham Hunt Club.
